Anime Boston 2007 is over. See who won the Masquerade!
Judging Awards
What is the Masquerade?
The Masquerade is a theatrical performance in which groups of fans wear costumes and perform short skits based on their favorite anime and manga. These skits may be funny or serious, parody or action, they may use characters from only one show or many, but they are always creative and fun. In addition, the Masquerade is an opportunity to see cosplayers show off some their spectacular costume craftsmanship and creativity. Awards are given to the best performances and costumes. The Masquerade has become one of the traditional main events of most anime conventions and will be one of the highlights of Anime Boston 2007.
We have two kinds of Masquerade participants: Performers and walk-ons. Performers will prepare and perform skits of up to two minutes in length. Walk-ons do not perform skits but simply come out on the stage to show their spectacular costumes, like a catwalk at a fashion show. The inclusion of walk-ons gives the fans a chance to see the skill of those cosplayers who are great craftsmen but not so interested in acting and writing. We will admit a total of 60 groups, of which 40 will be skits and 20 will be walk-ons. If the quota of 40 skits has not been filled by the deadline, then we will allow more walk-ons to take the extra spaces. In 2007, our Masquerade will be held in two “acts”, with our Walk-on Performances performing first, and our skits performing afterwards with a very special intermission in between!
Our Masquerade has two divisions: Novice and Advanced. Please check the rules for details.
- How can I participate in the Masquerade?
If you want to participate in the Masquerade then you or your group need to register for the Masquerade, using the registration form. The rules explain the requirements in detail and you should read them before registering.
- The Masquerade is now full.
The maximum number of masquerade entries has now been reached, and
is now full. Unfortunately, we cannot accomodate everyone, and
those seeking entry to the masquerade will have to wait until next year.
