General Karaoke Rules:
- If you are unsure a song you really want to sing is in our library, bring a copy yourself so you can flaunt your musical prowess for the masses. We will accept multiple types of media within reason.
- The choice is yours if you want to sing karaoke version of a song or a sing-along with the normal version. A database of available songs will be available at the con. If it is not specified for full version, default is karaoke version.
- If it is something you really want to sing and you want to make certain you have a lyric sheet, it is always nice to bring your own.
- Only Japanese songs and anime songs will be allowed to be sung at the karaoke lounge. This is an anime con. There are plenty of karaoke bars out there that will let you sing all the non-anime music.
- Please try to keep your energy at a manageable level. There are many pieces of expensive equipment around to give the best karaoke. We will be forced to take appropriate action if things get too unorganized. The whole point is to have fun, so we would prefer not go that route.
Karaoke Competition Rules (Friday Night):
The main karaoke contest will be run a little different this year as opposed to previous years, so please read carefully.
Signup for the main karaoke contest this year will be performed through a screening process much like the AMV contest, but without the categories. This is done to ensure that anyone who wants to participate can do so without having to worry about a first-come-first-serve system.
- A maximum of 18 contestants will be chosen with the addition of 2 alternates. (20 total)
- There is no limit in how many performers there are per entry, just as long as they are all listed on the entry form. Quality is more important than Quantity.
- All submitters must fill out a submission form and email it to http://www.animeboston.com/contact/?karaoke The form will be reviewed and forwarded with further instructions on submission depending on the preferred media.
- An audio or video submission is required for entry for proper screening. There is a question on the submission form as to the format you wish to submit your entry. Further information of obtaining the entry will be requested after the form is sent.
- All entrants must make sure they are able to attend the entire contest on Friday night of the contest and be registered as an attendee or you won't be able to get into the room.
- All entrants are required to check in and count themselves present at least 1/2 hour before the start of the contest.
- All entrants MUST have a copy (either on cd or mp3) of the musical accompaniment you wish to sing along with. This can be sent along with your screening entry if you wish.
- Submissions deadline is March 23rd. In the event there are not enough pre-submissions before the convention, registration will become open to all until the 18 contestant capacity is met.
- Dancing is permitted and a great way to sway the judges into a better overall score. Remember that eye contact with the judges scores points as well. After all, you are trying to impress them more than the audience.
Iron Karaoke Rules (Saturday):
- The Iron Karaoke contest has been getting better every year. This year is sure not to disappoint. For those unfamiliar, 12 contestants will be permitted to compete. There will be a list of 20 pre-determined songs. Each contestant randomly picks a song out of the 20 and sings whether he/she knows it or not.
- Winners will be decided through peer judging. This means contestants will vote on who wins. It is a bit hard to explain, but easy to understand when you actually see it. Each contestant will chose three contestants (other than themselves) that they want to win. The contestant with the most votes wins.
