Hall Costume Contest

The Hall Cosplay Contest is now full.

Scheduled Judging Times

Basic information:

  1. What is the Hall Costume Contest?
The Hall Costume Contest is a competitive event in which cosplayers sign up have their costumes evaluated by a panel of judges, and prizes are awarded to the best and most creative costumes. Most participants must register in advance, but a few spaces will be reserved for at-the-door registration. This contest is separate, both from the Masquerade and from the Staff-Vote Cosplay Contest. The format and criteria of the judging for the Hall Costume Contest is very similar to the craftsmanship judging for the Masquerade. Winners of the Hall Costume Contest will be announced at the Masquerade on Saturday Night and digital photographs of some or all of the costumes will be projected on the video screens at the Masquerade. No participants in the Hall Costume Contest will actually come onto the stage at any point. Judging for the Hall Costume Contest will take place on Friday April 20th and Saturday April 21th and will not conflict with any part of Masquerade. See the Hall Costume Contest Rules for important information regarding registering for both competitions.

What is unusual about Anime Boston's Hall Costume Contest?
Our Hall Costume Contest, like our Masquerade, has two divisions. Many masquerades divide their participants into categories, so that first-time participants compete against other first-time participants and experienced craftsmen compete against experienced craftsmen. Most Masquerades have three divisions: Novice, Intermediate, and Advanced. We will only two categories: Novice and Advanced. Novice cosplayers are those who have not won three or more costume awards at novice level, and not won any costume awards at any more advanced level (advanced, journeyman, master, etc). Advanced cosplayers are those who have won three or more novice awards, or one or more advanced award. Novices may choose to compete at advanced level if they wish, but advanced cosplayers are required to compete at the advanced level.

  2. How can I participate in the Hall Costume Contest?
If you want to participate in the Hall Costume Contest then you or your group (you may enter as either) should pre-register for the contest using the registration form. The rules explain the requirements in detail and you should read them before registering. If contest pre-registration fills up before you get a chance to register, very few spaces will be available for at-the-door registration on Friday of the convention. When you pre-register for the contest, you must register for either Friday or Saturday judging and you must attend judging on the day for which you pre-registered. If all spaces on one day fill up and you cannot be judged on the other day, then you will not be able to participate. The staff will do their best to make sure all participants have are judged on the day they prefer.
